Thanksgiving Dinner for Two...make that Four

Ben and I made a huge Thanksgiving feast today. We decided to celebrate Thanksgiving today because I have to work on Thanksgiving Day. I requested that we have our meal just the two of us this year (with Scout and Smokey Joe too, of course), because this is our last Thanksgiving while in the service and away from our families. The past four Thanksgivings (while in the military) we celebrated with co-workers and friends. But I realized this year could be our last chance to celebrate just the two of us. Next Thanksgiving we will be back on the Mainland and will no doubt celebrate with family. And then after next year there's no telling if our family will be expanding.

Today was perfect. I am so thankful to have Ben in my life and I was so happy to spend the whole day with him. We made so much food: a 15 lb Turkey, homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, delicious veggie dip (my dad's recipe), and of course lots of pie! We have tons of leftovers that will last us through Thanksgiving Day.

Ben and I ate until we couldn't move. And Scout and Smokey Joe were more than happy to help us with the scraps. They had their napkins ready and everything.

After dinner we just relaxed on the couches while we digested our food. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day.

Ben and I really enjoy combining our childhood holiday traditions and making traditions of our own.

So what is everyone else doing for Thanksgiving?

Wow, that sounds just perfect! Your display looks great. I'll bet the kids really liked the scraps.
I try to replicate Grandma Conaway's stuffing, but don't get it just the way she did. Would you send me your dad's recipe for the veggie dip?

..oh, and we're not doing much this holiday. Beth will be coming over after work, and we want to go to see the display of lights near my school in Sedalia.

Glad you guys had a great day, kinda nice just the four of you, huh?
I had 2 of my daughters, 2 of the cutest little grandsons and my son in law!! What an awesome treat! To add to that, a sweet neice and her husband. How blessed I am!
