Smokey Joe

Ben and I decided to take Smokey Joe (that's the name Ben gave the cute lost dog that found us) to the Humane Society about 10 hours after we found him. We didn't know his medical history and we didn't want to risk him passing something along to Scout.

When I dropped Smokey Joe off at the Humane Society I was informed that if his owners hadn't claimed him within 48 hours we would get the first opportunity to adopt him. Sure enough 48 hours went by and I got a call from a vet at the Humane Society. No one had come to claim Smokey. The vet also told me that Smokey Joe had been labeled with a "temperament" issue and wouldn't be eligible for open public adoption. The vet went on to explain that if we didn't adopt Smokey Joe he was going to be put to sleep.

I couldn't believe it! Smokey Joe had been so affectionate with me. I couldn't understand why he was being labeled with a temperament issue. Anyway, I was not about to let the poor dog be put to sleep. Ben and I discussed the situation and decided to adopt Smokey Joe.

Smokey is scheduled for his neutering surgery on Wednesday and Ben and I can pick him up on Thursday. Smokey is going to require a lot of work but I think he's worth it.
